You won't see too many photos of our guide Ken, because he's just too fast on that downhill bike. Ken organized the first descent by mountain bike of the 5th largest peak in Rwanda, Mount Kabuya. Shuttling part of the ascent, mostly to save energy for the uncertain road ahead, we managed to climb another 1000 feet. Joined up by most of the village children living on Mount Kabuya, we took a small rest before descending about 3500 feet. Fields strung together with skinny single track made for an exciting descent, filled with technical rocks, steeps, and fast cross country sections. It was adventure riding in it's true form, and one of the most exciting parts of our trip! Pictures from our many mountain bike rides are great way to get a sense of the lush landscape, village culture, and curious people. -Heather
Resting at the top of our climb isn't so much a rest as we are the spectacle for all the village children. Joining us on our uphill climb, they very enthusiastically run alongside us, screaming or chanting, "mzungu" translating to "whitey". It would be the first time mzungus have descended this drastic landscape by mountain bike, so we were jointly excited in that. A very curious and friendly group of children were happy to entertain some photography. -Heather

Good times that's for sure!!!! I can't wait and get back to the mountain and do some more riding on it.
It was great having some riding buddy's around who were always available to get out. Too bad I wasn't unemployed at the time we could have done a lot more. See ya in August.
